The fact that Turistička i ugostiteljska škola Dubrovnik (Tourism and Catering School Dubrovnik) has existed for more than a half of century should not be surprising, since the tourist industry is the keystone of the overall economic development in this area. The number of students is continuously increasing. In our school there are 621 students, and they are not only from Dubrovnik region but also from all of Dalmatia and Croatia. School programs are offered in the catering sector for cooks, waiters and pastry cooks as well as in the tourism and hospitality sector in which students are educated to gain vast knowledge in the field of tourism such as: working in hotel establishments, travel agencies as well as in other tourist areas. Due to the fact that in tourism and hospitality employees are highly demanded in direct contact with tourists and business partners rich educational attention is paid to learning foreign languages.
Primrose Publishing is a private company for developing and marketing materials for teaching and learning languages. It has operated successfully for over 30 years. It has developed into a consortium of over a hundred independent language professionals and IT experts across the world. It was one of the first to produce language-learning materials on computer, first for Apple, then MS-DOS then Windows. Continuously updated, they are on DVD both for teaching & learning over 50 languages. Many of the programs are also on-line. The programs are marketed under the name Tick-Tack. Primrose has been continuously involved in EU projects since 1996. The company has been a partner for ten years in a series of Erasmus projects linking 70 universities in all parts of Europe. The Euro-Skills courses and CLIL courses run by Primrose at Cambridge University have been conducted up to now within Leonardo mobility projects. Five further Euro-Skills courses have recently been applied for under Erasmus+ Key Action1. Primrose is currently a partner in a project to encourage those in the hotel and catering sector to help guests develop an interest in, and enhance their knowledge of, European cuisine.
Turiba University (Biznesa augstskola Turiba - BAT), founded in 1993, is one of the leading higher educational institutions in Latvia with a stable tradition and clear vision of common European educational space. BAT offers professional bachelor study programmes (EQF Level 6) in business, international tourism, events management, PR, law, journalism; college education (EQF Level 5) in hotel and restaurant service, marketing, advertising, service industries, PR, law, finances; professional master’s programmes (EQF Level 7) in tourism strategic management, business administration, PR, law and PhD programmes (EQF Level 8) in business administration, law sciences, communication sciences. The languages of instruction are Latvian and English. Language Department is experienced in project work. During the last six 6 years the staff of the Language Department have participated in 24 international and national projects, including EU projects dealing with language learning (EN, GE, LV, FR, ES, RU), adult education, teacher education, developing entrepreneurship competences for socially disadvantaged groups of people (the unemployed, the people under the risk of unemployment).
Ekonomska šola Murska Sobota, Višja strokovna šola is a higher vocational school in the Pomurje region in the south-east of Slovenia. It offers two short-cycle programs, Economist and Informatics. Within the economist programs it offers four modules – accountancy, commercialism, entrepreneurship and tourism. At the moment there are about 400 students enrolled and we have 40 staff – lecturers and administration/support staff. 10 lecturers are experts from companies in the region.Within the program Economist – module tourism – students have different subjects regarding tourism topics. They also have Business English and Higher - level Business English where tourism topics are covered. Lecturers teaching these subjects have important contacts with spas and companies dealing with tourism in the region as they help students, if necessary, to find a suitable work placement for them. Ekonomska šola Murska, Višja strokovna šola, has some experience in project work. We took part in national and international projects, including EU projects dealing with adult education and mobility projects.
IPSSAR Nino Bergese is a vocational school located in Genoa, Italy. It takes its name from a famous Genoese chef. It is situated in an area that has seen a dramatic economic and social decline, especially in the metallurgical and shipping industry, which has had a serious effect on the school system. 25% of our students come from outside Europe. 8% of them are newcomers who require special and effective action to help them integrate and gain an education to become proper European citizens. It has now increased its number of students to 930. These include morning classes for young students and afternoon and evening classes for adults. The courses provided cover cookery, restaurant, bar, reception and front desk. The school often organize sevents and banquets involving the students from final classes in order to improve their skills and to prepare them for the world of work. The school also participates in competitions with other schools in Italy and abroad, especially France, Spain and England.
